We are seeking to appoint a Principal Process Engineer at a Client’s site in Sweden for the delivery of process design scopes and to provide support during turnarounds. This position is suited to an experienced process engineering professional with a proven track record of leading process engineering activities and site experience.
The assignment is scheduled to start in August 2026 and will run for 18 months. The position is full-time and requires full on-site presence in Nynäshamn, Sweden.
Key Responsibilities:
Process Engineering & Studies
Provide process engineering input to ongoing and planned refinery projects
Support development of project scopes and technical definitions
Perform process calculations and evaluations
Review heat and material balances
Support process simulations (if required)
Review process safety requirements, including flare loads, relief cases, and isolation philosophy
Review process design basis, PFDs, and P&IDs.
Participate in design reviews (e.g., HAZOP, HAZID, SIL) as required
Review and comment on vendor documentation and engineering deliverables
Support project execution
Assist with commissioning planning and readiness reviews (as required)
Participate in technical meetings and reviews

Turn Around Support
Support turnaround, preparation, and execution from a process engineering perspective. Provide day shift or night shift process engineering coverage during shutdown, start-up, and commissioning activities
Review shutdown, isolation, decontamination, and start-up procedures
Identify process risks, and mitigation measures during turnaround activities
Troubleshoot process upsets and provide technical support during shutdown and start-up phases
Support operations, maintenance, inspection, mechanical, and HSE teams to ensure safe execution
Support Management of Change (MOC), risk assessments, and process safety reviews related to turnaround activities
Monitor unit performance during restart and support stabilization and optimization of operations
Support field checking and hand-back of equipment
Support pre-start-up safety reviews

Who You Are
A minimum of 12 years of process design experience within a relevant industrial sector
Degree-qualified in Chemical Engineering and Chartered Member of the IChemE
Significant site experience, including supporting turnarounds
Proven ability in leading process engineering activities, ensuring that they are delivered safely, accurately and on time
Sound understanding of process safety fundamentals and experience in hazard/risk assessments
Well-developed organisational and teamwork skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients and provide technical guidance to junior engineers
Excellent problem-solving ability and attention to detail
